HASWA 1974 (Health and Safety at Work Act)

HASWA lays down wide ranging general duties on employers to ensure they protect the health, safety and welfare at work of all employees and others on their premises. Specific, higher duties are assigned to some of these general duties in the form of regulations, notably PUWER and LOLER.

PUWER 1998 – Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations

PUWER aims to ensure the safety of people as well as companies operating, maintaining and having control over their equipment and machinery used in the work place. This regulation holds responsibility on organisations and businesses employees who use work equipment, whether it is owned by them or not.

LOLER 1998 – Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations

LOLER places duties on people and companies who own, operate or have control over lifting equipment. This includes all businesses and organisations whose employees use lifting equipment, whether owned by them or not.
